MakeaStar.com:
Welcome to the finals. Did you ever think you would get
this far?
Ron: Yes. I felt it was a good possibility.
Lisa: Of course!
MAS:
What
do you think it is about your song “Escape”
that it has gotten into the finals?
Ron:
It’s a simple song and a simple idea. I think a lot
of people will be able to relate to its sound and
lyrical content. I hope it strikes a familiar chord in
most hearts.
Lisa:
The easy-going lyrical feel and strong beat.
MAS:
Have
you been getting any e-mail from Fans? The Industry?
Ron:
All our emails have been from fans. Some from Viagra
vendors too! I’ve also received positive emails from
former MakeaStar contestants. When you participate a few
times as we have, you should be able to make some
friends along the way - other artists who will cheer and
encourage you.
Lisa:
The fans have been very supportive and encouraging. You
make lots of new friends in the contest!
MAS:
What
is the response to your song and your sound in general?
Ron:
Very positive. We’ve been sharing Escape to others
through some internet channels for about 6 weeks now.
We’ve had more activity and industry attention to Escape
than we had on any song from our previous album during
the same amount of time.
Lisa:
Overall very good. Of course it’s always nice to get
constructive criticism!
MAS:
What
do you think about MakeaStar.com's Industry review
service?
Ron:
I like it.
Lisa:
It’s a great tool to get feedback and what you can do
better.
MAS:
What
about the equal voting power being given to Fans and the
Industry in the contests?
Ron:
It seems fair. Until you lose because of Industry votes.
Lisa:
It gives even power but you’re always afraid that you
won’t get enough Industry votes. If that happens and you
have more fan votes it’s disappointing!
MAS:
Was
getting into the contest your primary goal or were you
more interested in the industry review?
Ron:
The review always feels paramount. After that, if the
song has qualified, my feelings and interests naturally
gravitate more toward the contest and the PR that it
brings for the song.
Lisa:
The review was prime to help us “fine-tune” our music.
MAS:
How
did you develop your sound? Is there a primary
songwriter? Is it collaborative?
Ron:
I’m the primary songwriter. This song evolved over five
years. At one point, we even pitched a 30 second version
of this track for a radio spot.
MAS:
Any
influences you care to mention? What have other people
compared you to?
Ron:
I’m influenced mostly by life experiences, Lisa and my
children, and people in general. Musical influences
include Beck, Moby, Portishead, and Garbage. Other
listeners have mentioned Evanescence, Massive Attack,
Amy Sky, and Madonna (believe it or not) after hearing
Escape.
Lisa:
Portishead, Garbage, Sixpence None the Richer…the list
could go on!
MAS:
What
do you think may set you apart from other Artists in
your genre?
Ron:
Perspective.
Lisa:
We have a very unique sound!
MAS:
It’s
obvious that your recorded material is great, how about
the your shows?
Ron:
I’d love to be doing some shows soon.
Lisa:
Ditto to Ron!
MAS:
Are
you playing anywhere anytime soon?
Ron:
No. But that could change fairly quickly.
Stay tuned!
Lisa:
Hopefully!
MAS:
Have
you released your music already? If so how, where and
when? If not, do you plan to in the near future?
Ron:
Haven’t released it yet. Plan to release it in October.
Lisa:
Planning on October with a CD Release Party.
MAS:
Where
would you like to see your music take you?
Ron:
Worldwide!!
Lisa:
Right to the top!
MAS:
How
realistic is that goal in terms of the immediate future?
Ron:
It’s realistic. Escape already has been chosen for
commercial radio promotion in the U.S. And, it will be
included on the RockinMoms.com compilation. And, it was
chosen to be shopped in Europe for potential licensing
deals.
MAS:
What
one band would you like to follow in the footsteps of
down the road to success?
Ron:
We’re not trying to follow in someone else’s footsteps.
Our road to success comes from within. So Lisa and I are
constantly communicating our feelings and aspirations to
each other.
Lisa:
Ditto again!
MAS:
Any
inspiration behind your band name or was it pretty much
a straight forward thing?
Ron:
The inspiration for our name came to me during a time of
meditation.
Lisa:
A part of it was from a verse in the Bible from 1 Kings.
