Natalia
MakeaStar.com Contest Champion
Contest Round Ending 6/21/2005

ELECTROSOUL - this is how Natalia describes her style. Soul and heart driven music with influences such as Seal and Depeche Mode. Natalia was born and raised in St. Petersburg Russia, spent her college years in Poland and now is living in the USA. Since an early age Natalia was involved in the performing arts, singing and dancing in children’s groups throughout Eastern Europe. After moving to the US Natalia quickly picked up the language and encouraged by a friend started writing her own songs in English after just 2 years living in a new country. She is now working on her debut recordings of original songs, with a producer and team of musicians who are located in Poland. Today’s technology and the internet made this Transatlantic collaboration possible.

Welcome to the finals. Did you ever think you would get this far?

Natalia: Didn’t expect this coming at all :)…True story! Thanks to everyone who voted for me! You made it possible!

MAS: What do you think it is about your song “Extasy of love” that it has gotten into the finals?

Natalia: People got Ecstatic and had no choice but to vote for me. On a serious note...I am glad it made it this far. This is the success of a whole team who worked on it: me, my producer and arranger, guitar player and back up vocalist. Each of them added their personal touch to the song.

MAS:
Have you been getting any e-mail from Fans? The Industry?

Natalia: Yes, many. And I am very thankful for this! Thanks to all my amazing and very supportive fans I got that far! I value my fans and I always find time to respond  to my fan mail.

MAS: What is the response to your song and your sound in general?

Natalia: Amazing response right from the early stages of the recording. I have been complimented on my songwriting skills by music industry professionals and it took off from there. I  get many  e-mails from fans from all over the world ( France, Belgium, Japan, US, Malaysia, Germany etc…saying the most kind words about my music and my voice and asking where they can buy my CD and when they can see me live. People have been so enthusiastic about my music they keep  joining my street team and spreading the word about my music.

- One of my fans from North Carolina wrote to me that  he already knows the lyrics to my songs and was singing along with his friends there.

 - It’s one of my fan’s daughter’s favorite new song and they dance to it :)

MAS: What do you think about MakeaStar.com's Industry review service?

Natalia: Very good professional critic

MAS:
What about the equal voting power being given to Fans and the Industry in the contests?

Natalia: Very fair system

MAS: Was getting into the contest your primary goal or were you more interested in the industry review?

Natalia: I was interested in both:  review and the contest.

MAS: How did you develop your sound? Is there a primary songwriter? Is it collaborative?

Natalia: I write my own material (lyrics and melodies), I listen to a lot of good music and write on a daily basis. I am a big fan of Jazz, Electronica (The Bravery and Brazilian Girls are one of my favorites at the moment !) And I am working with an amazing producer who does arrangements and production of my music, lots of credit goes to him!!!!

MAS: Any influences you care to mention? What have other people compared you to?

Natalia: Depeche Mode is my major influence, Seal, Erasure, Madonna, Annie Lenox, Melissa Etheridge, Etta James, Anastacia, Massive Attack etc..

MAS: What do you think may set you apart from other Artists in your genre?

Natalia: I can jump really high! That’s my thing !....just joking :) In my genre there are not many singers/songwriters and performers (all in one) who can also write and sing in 3 languages. Topics of my songs are very diverse it’s not all about romantic love like most of the pop music, also I was told I have very unique tone to my voice.

MAS: It’s obvious that your recorded material is great, how about your shows?

Natalia: Being in a studio is fun but also hard work: to catch this magical performance takes work…and being on stage is all about fun and having good time. I have been performing in front of a live audience since early age, and I absolutely love it. I am also a choreographer/dancer and that’s what you can expect from my future shows: exciting outfits, back up dancers and a lot of great energy.

MAS: Are you playing anywhere anytime soon?

Natalia: Philadelphia, PA IMC ( Independent Music Conference) in September. But my priority right now is to finish my EP and then I will be playing live more. Visit my official website for  dates: www.natalia-music.com

MAS:
Have you released your music already? If so how, where and when? If not, do you plan to in the near future?

Natalia: It’s only released for my fans to listen/stream from my websites www.natalia-music.com and also www.myspace.com/natalia
My EP will be available for sale on the internet soon.

MAS:
Where would you like to see your music take you?

Natalia: My goal is to reach peoples hearts with my lyrics my music and live performance. I want to get my music on the radio and perform live as much as possible.

MAS:
How realistic is that goal in terms of the immediate future?

Natalia: With faith, hard work and determination everything is achievable :) It won’t happen overnight, but I am working on it and hope to get there soon. I have already reached many fans all over the world thanks to my website and received many requests from clubs and internet radio DJ’s to play my songs.

MAS: What one band would you like to follow in the footsteps of down the road to success?

Natalia:  No one actually, I think every Artist has their own unique road to stardom. I am a big sponge when it comes to following someone’s steps and I learn from the best. I admire Annie De Franco for her work ethic and achievements! And many Bands/Artists who create opportunities for themselves (I applaud  DIY movement).

MAS: Any inspiration behind your band name or was it pretty much a straight forward thing?

Natalia: Blame my parents...they named me that ! :)
