MakeaStar.com: Welcome to the finals!
Did you ever think you would get this far?
MyzeWell:
We didn’t really think about it, we
just stumbled onto the site, submitted our song for
review, and it was entered into the competition. We just
want to thank everyone who voted for us who have never
seen our live show.
MAS:
What
do you think it is about your song that it has gotten
into the finals?
MyzeWell:
We
feel that "Blinded" is a straight up rock n’roll song,
in a music environment where everyone is trying to come
up with the new thing, or do whatever is trendy.
Standard rock music will always be appealing.
MAS:
Have
you been getting any e-mail from fans? The industry?
MyzeWell:
We have received some fan feedback
from this contest, which we are very thankful for. It is
very rewarding to get feedback from new fans, who are
not from the Pittsburgh, and surrounding area, who never
have had the opportunity to join us for a live show. We
have had promising feedback for industry in the past,
from music conferences, and hope for the opportunity for
more industry professionals to hear our music.
MAS:
What
is the response to your song and your sound in general?
MyzeWell:
We
have always received a great response to that song,
especially on our recordings, however that is not a song
that our fans would say defines our band, and our
songwriting. It has always been said that no one can
pinpoint our sound, we are never compared to anyone
because of our range of influences and tastes.
MAS:
What
do you think about MakeaStar.com's industry review
service?
MyzeWell:
The industry review service is great
because it gives musicians a source to be heard by a
higher power that their fans and peers.
MAS:
What
about the equal voting power being given to fans and the
industry in the contests?
MyzeWell:
It is nice, because you get industry reps
to hear you and vote on you, but also get the vote of
fans who had never heard you before, because, ultimately
the fans decide what is popular and stays popular.
MAS:
Was
getting into the contest your primary goal or were you
more interested in the industry review?
MyzeWell:
Honestly, we were more interested in
the industry review. That was our primary objective for
submitting our material.
MAS:
How
did you develop your sound? Is there a primary
songwriter? Is it collaborative?
MyzeWell:
Our front man, TJ, is our primary
songwriter, with Josh adding a lot to the lyrics. Our
songs are usually born on acoustic, at that point it
becomes collaborative to turn them into rock songs, with
the full band working on tempo, song structure, and
mood. Our sound comes from all of our different musical
backgrounds and tastes.
MAS:
Any
influences you care to mention? What have other people
compared you to?
MyzeWell:
We have never really been compared to
anyone, some people think we sound like a combination of
different musicians. Bands we like: Our Lady Peace,
Third Eye Blind, Pearl Jam, Matchbox 20, Metallica, Guns
N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, and Incubus.
MAS:
What
do you think may set you apart from other artists in
your genre?
MyzeWell:
It is hard to answer that, we just write
music that we enjoy, and that our fans enjoy. We think
that is what sets us apart.
MAS:
It’s
obvious that your recorded material is great, how about
your shows?
MyzeWell:
Our live shows are what we are all about.
It's nice to have a well recorded CD, because that is
one of your avenues of exposure to your fans. However,
the other important way of reaching your fans is during
your live shows. We like to have someone who knows us
and who we are comfortable with for a sound engineer,
and we always change our shows up to give the fans what
they want.
MAS:
Are
you playing anywhere anytime soon?
MyzeWell:
We are now just starting to book for
summer. We took some time off to work on our record.
MAS:
Have
you released your music already? If so how, where and
when? If not, do you plan to in the near future?
MyzeWell:
We plan to release our music whenever we
finish this CD, our last CD was more of a demo to give
people a taste of us, and for booking.
MAS:
Where
would you like to see your music take you?
MyzeWell:
Just like everyone else, we would like to earn a living
playing music, and make it as far as we can.
MAS:
How
realistic is that goal in terms of the immediate future?
MyzeWell:
It
is hard to say, if we get a shot, then we will go for
it, if not, I guess we will wait it out.
MAS:
What
one band would you like to follow in the footsteps, down
the road to success?
MyzeWell:
We would probably say none. We want to do
our own thing. We want to do whatever makes us happy and
leads to our success.
MAS:
Any
inspiration behind your band name or was it pretty much
a straight forward thing?
MyzeWell:
It's slang for “might as well”. We
all say that a lot, so we couldn’t think of a band name,
and decided to us that for the time being and it stuck.
