MakeaStar.com: Welcome to the finals!
Did you ever think you would get this far?
Tatiana Ward: Well, with so many
talented acts to compete against, I just hoped to get
past the first round! LOL!
MAS: What do you think it is about your song that
it has gotten into the finals?
TW: When I wrote “Letter” I was going through
a similar situation as the girl in my song. I always try
to be open and honest in my writing in hopes that people
can relate. I just think a lot of people can relate to
this song. Who in the world hasn’t had a crush on
someone and wondered “why the heck is he/she with that
other person”?
MAS: Have you been getting any e-mail from Fans?
The Industry?
TW: Yes, I did receive email from a group that
participated in the contest.
MAS: What is the response to your song and your
sound in general?
TW: The response is incredible. People find my
sound very appealing and my lyrics very easy to relate
to, as they speak to themes and experiences that are
common to us all.
MAS: What do you think about MakeaStar.com's
Industry review service?
TW: The service is wonderful. I really find
MakeaStar.com’s review service to be fair, unbiased and
very professional. Not to mention very helpful in
identifying areas that an artist can improve upon as it
pertains to perfecting their craft.
MAS: What about the equal voting power being
given to Fans and the Industry in the contests?
TW: Exceptional, as it allows for a very fair
and equal distribution of professional and non
professional opinions.
MAS: Was getting into the contest your primary
goal or were you more interested in the industry review?
TW: I was more interested in the review. I
felt it was important to seek the opinion of industry
professionals before I start to shop my package to the
labels.
MAS: How did you develop your sound? Is there a
primary songwriter? Is it collaborative?
TW: Growing up in a “mixed” household really
had a lot to do with the sound of my music. My father
listened to a lot of jazz and classic R&B while my
mother was really into top 40 and country music. So it’s
only natural that I grew to love all these kinds of
music. I’m just trying to be true to myself and in my
world I can’t have one without the other. So I’m a
perfect blend of rock and R&B. I also do all of my
writing.
MAS: Any influences you care to mention? What
have other people compared you to?
TW: I can honestly say that I have been
influenced in some capacity by every single album I’ve
ever owned. Music is a learning process to me and as
long as new music keeps coming out, I will continue to
learn from it. There is no one artist that influenced me
the most though.
It’s hard for people to compare my sound because there
haven’t really been a whole lot of artists that have
done the type of music I’m doing. That’s okay with me; I
guess I’ll just have to be the first! LOL!
MAS: What do you think may set you apart from
other Artists in your genre?
TW: It’s not hard to be set apart from the
crowd when you are just being yourself. No one else can
be me? I’m not perfect and I don’t ever want to be. My
life is very real and so are the things I write about. I
don’t want people to think that I’m larger than life. I
want them to think of me as someone they could have a
conversation with at their dining room table. I’m just
being Tatiana, that should set me apart.
MAS: It’s obvious that your recorded material
is great, how about the your shows?
TW: Good energy, good music, live vocals, and
personal. These are the elements that I always enjoy
when watching a show. So they are the elements I give
people when they come to see my show.
MAS: Are you playing anywhere anytime soon?
TW: I have just put a band together, and we
will start performing in the Tri-State, New York area in
mid march.
MAS: Have you released your music already? If so
how, where and when? If not, do you plan to in the near
future?
TW: Not yet, but I am now shopping it to the
major labels.
MAS: Where would you like to see your music take
you?
TW: I want to be a world class entertainer who
is recognized as a truly gifted singer/songwriter who
performs well and writes well for both myself and
others.
MAS: How realistic is that goal in terms of the
immediate future?
TW: I would like to thing very realistic, but
in the end, all I can do is be the best I can be and
stay true to the music and me.
MAS: What one band would you like to follow in
the footsteps of down the road to success?
TW: This is a difficult question as there are
so many good groups that I love and admire. So, Let’s
just say all the bands that have tasted the test of time
and been loved by all.
